By understanding the methods the bebop players used, you'll see that you can take it beyond the fundamentals they invented
Execute jazz piano based on what the masters have shown you through their music. By trying to sound like the masters while you also add your own ideas, you'll connect the dots.

Each part of the course comes with 10 rich lessons.
Most of them between 30 and 60 minutes long. Here are the first six:
In this very first jazz piano lesson, you’ll get to know me – and I get to know you.
We’ll repeat the basics such as the circle of fifths + a lot of jazz theory and jazz philosophy.
I’ll introduce you to our methods and you'll get specific things to work on such as jazz piano voicings and more.
Your second lesson will be given to you 10 days after you signed up, but you can unlock lesson 2 whenever you feel ready.
In this lesson we’ll cover the basics of swing and harmony.
We’ll talk a lot about listening to Jazz (and why it is important) as well as how you can use alterations when you play jazz.
In your third lesson we’ll work a lot on how to improvise.
Improvisation is the core of jazz, and it is essential that we learn improvisation and develop our improvisation muscles.
In this lesson I will also show you more on how you should practice to get the best results.
Just like a baby needs to imitate his parents to learn his mother language, we need to imitate jazz musicians to be able to express ourselves through the “jazz language”.
I will show you how you can transcribe in multiple ways.
Also in this lesson we’re exploring improvisation over a blues.
In this lesson we’ll start working on one of two songs. You actually make a decision if you want to work on song A or song B, or maybe if you’re tough enough you may handle both of the songs?
We’ll use one of the transcribing methods that was introduced in Jazz Lesson 0004.
Also we’ll study more of the history of jazz as well as the II-V-I progressions.
In your sixth lesson we’ll continue working on the one song you’ve chosen in lesson 0005.
Also we’ll work more on jazz theory and I’m going to teach you a thing you probably didn’t know.
We’ll work more on practicing scales as well as practicing the voicings you’re working on.
It’s wonderful, and really useful. I can study everything seeing your videos and materials more and more. And this is great. Everything is perfectly clear, well explained. I’m very satisfied. Your approach is unique. I’m classical piano graduated and I studied a little about jazz some years ago in a Jazz school in Turin…but I didn’t understand nothing…It was lacking any kind of method. In three lessons with you I understood much more than i did in some months. So: I think your work is a really great course!

Hi! My name is Gjermund Sivertsen and I'm the founder of PopJazzOnline.com and the happy father of two boys. I'm married to my beautiful wife Ewa, and live a happy life outside of Oslo (Norway) where I'm running PopJazzOnline.com together with some great people.
I'm writing now these words to let you get to know me a little, in case you decide to sign up to The Jazz Piano Step-by-Step Course!
While you're reading this you can also have a look at a few of the videos from YouTube. (If you're able to multitask. I'm not)
My philosophy is in short: Take Care Of Your Music, because nobody else will do it for you. If you have the urge to play music/jazz (like I do), you can play music/ jazz piano. You and I probably have something in common: The passion for music, the passion for jazz. I'm really overwhelmed and thankful for the fantastic feedback from students and fans since I started PopJazzOnline.com at the beginning of 2016.
I'm working day and night to support all my students, create new music and making sure everything works as it should. I'm truly grateful for the possibility to connect with so many students from all over the world and help them all understand jazz piano better by teaching my methods that simplify the complexity, as well as boost their productivity.
Thank you all ! I wish you a great day and whatever you do, take care of your music!
Regards,

For the first time ever you are able to sit down to practice together with your teacher. Thanks to fancy technology, we have the ability to slow down the music for you, create loop points as well as outlining everything for you.
Why make practicing harder than it is?
The only thing this course does not do for you is to do the practicing…
…for you.

Q: With all the free jazz piano lessons on YouTube, why do I need this course?
A: This course tells you the order of what to practice. YouTube is great for getting inspiration, tips and tricks, but it doesn’t tell you the best order to work things out. Simply put: We love YouTube and we recommend you also use YouTube to fill up with helpful information.
Still: If you want to see results and get the best order, this course will give you that!
Q: Am I good enough for this course?
A: If you have been playing piano for some time (so you know the basics) and you see yourself as a person with a lot to learn and want to learn from an expert, this course is the right thing for you. It is more about your motivation and willingness to practice the things we’re going through in this step-by-step course that matters the most.
Q: What is the difference between a GOLD membership and BASIC membership?
A: Gold members get personal guidance, scoring (optional), access to the Gold member support area where you can ask questions directly to your teacher. For example: If you’re stuck in a lesson or just want to get advice, simply upload a recording of yourself (video or mp3) and get the help you need! (For serious students only)

Q: Can I skip between the lessons if I know things?
A: No, not needed.
This is a good question that we get a lot before we get new students in, but almost never after a student is in the course. Since the course is a step-by-step program with many new methods, it will take time to master each lesson. If you happen to know some scales/chords or similar that we present in the course and you run out of work, there is a bonus section available with many exercises.
Q: Will you show me how to improvise over jazz standards?
A: Yes! One of the most important things we learn as jazz pianists is improvisation. We’ll focus a lot on how you can develop your improvisation to the next level. Also we’ll work on improvising over famous jazz standards. Also in part 4, we'll work deeper on the jazz standards
Q: Do I need a long term contract?
A: No. You can choose the plan that’s best for you. You can do either a monthly plan or a yearly subscription. The yearly subscription is recommended for simplified billing and a nice discount (Save 20% on a yearly plan).

Christian is another great guy that tried out multiple live jazz piano teachers as well as several other internet jazz programs.
By following the methods presented in the course, he finally got great results and understanding as a hobby jazz pianist.
Elin was taking piano lessons with Gjermund before he went online. The lessons were deeply tested on real live people before they became a part of the Jazz Piano Step-by-Step Course

Gjermund’s jazz piano course is well structured and is motivational with the step by step approach.
Even though I have completed one year of a jazz degree, I am finding his course is consolidating my understanding as some topics are approached from a different angle to what I encountered at university.
As a jazz piano hobbyist, I am finding that my goals are being achieved with this course.

Thank you for your congrats reaching lesson 40. I also have the idea that I have reached an important milestone. It was a long way, but it was worthwhile to do so.
I notice that my playing has changed significantly. I can find my way more natural; the sounds are better, I have more vocabulary, my improvisation goes smoother, my comping is much better, I am getting compliments from my other band members who also experience my improvements and last but not least I have more fun in my playing. I had the feeling that I was running into blocks and that this wall prevented me from making further progress. That was the situation before I started with the lessons with you. It was undoubtedly one of the main reasons to start the Step by Step course. That wall has been torn down now, and I see that I am making progress again. I am also getting more creative and free in my playing.
I want to thank you for all the lessons so far and all the inspiration in your playing as well as your motivating talks and quotes. All this inspiration helped me a lot to push things forward.
And there is still a lot to come that I also want to learn. So I will continue with the lessons and practice what I have learned and have to learn with the same enthusiasm as I did till now.
- Thijs Weerts, The Netherlands.
